Labour Market Forecasts
The FOCAL initiative will produce forecasts of labour supply and demand for key occupations in the broader automotive sector. These forecasts will produce extensive data related to important, in-demand occupations in the sector at the 4-digit National Occupational Classification (NOC) and 4-digit North American Industry Classification (NAIC) levels. Our model will produce provincial forecasts for Ontario, Quebec, and for eight key automotive sector regions: Windsor/Sarnia; London/Stratford-Bruce Peninsula; Kitchener-Waterloo/Barrie; the Golden Horseshoe; Eastern Ontario; the Greater Montreal Region; Winnipeg; and Vancouver.
Estimates of current employment in the broader automotive industry, as seen in the June 2020 forecast profiles, may differ from the estimates produced by our project team in the regional profiles from Fall 2019. The forecast profiles also use an expanded list of North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes to better reflect our definition of the broader automotive industry. Over the coming months, our project team will revise and update the Fall 2019 regional profiles to ensure they align with the latest research.
