New labour market information for the automotive manufacturing in Canada – the FOCAL Initiative
The Future of Canadian Automotive Labourforce (FOCAL) Initiative will:
produce current labour market information related to Canada’s automotive manufacturing sector;
examine key trends affecting the automotive labour market;
forecast supply and demand for key occupations in the broader automotive sector.
help industry make informed decisions about workforce planning and skills development;
provide job seekers and students with a better sense of where employment opportunities will be in the sector;
and help educators and policymakers better understand the sector’s employment trends.
The FOCAL initiative is funded by the Government of Canada through Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Its research papers and leading-edge labour market forecasts will expand traditional perceptions about the automotive sector in Canada. The Initiative is supported by a National Stakeholder Advisory Committee of automotive manufacturing leaders from Canada’s original equipment manufacturers, auto parts makers, industry associations, automotive policy makers and employee organizations.
The FOCAL Initiative began its work in November of 2018, and is scheduled to conclude in the fall of 2021.
