The Impact of EV Production on the Automotive Manufacturing Supply Chain: Sources, Methods and Findings
The shift to producing electric vehicles will mean will lead to changes in the automotive manufacturing workforce, its occupations, and in some of relevant skills in the sector.
For example, electric vehicles have a much simpler powertrain with fewer component parts than is needed in a traditional internal combustion powered vehicle.
A new FOCAL report provides a scan of existing studies to quantify the impact of the shift to electric vehicle production on the automotive manufacturing labour force. This new report also touches on the differences between the traditional internal combustion engine vehicles and the new electrified vehicles to examine the impact on parts manufacturers and their employment.
FOCAL’s future work will explore this impact more deeply and offer a comprehensive breakdown of the impact of this shift on Canada’s automotive manufacturing sector.
