FOCAL has built a broad measure of automotive production employment to include vehicle assemblers, parts and components manufacturers, materials suppliers, companies supplying tooling and production technology, and connected and autonomous vehicle technology suppliers. By our measure, automotive production in Canada employs approximately 188,500 people, so addressing the sector’s labour demand and supply issues is an important corporate and public policy challenge.
In Ontario alone, our baseline forecast indicates that automotive production in Canada will need to hire approximately 39,000 workers between 2021 and 2030 in order to meet projected labour demands. Our one hour online meeting on February 25th will provide you with details on this recruitment challenge for automotive production employers in the GHTA. As always, visit the other pages of the FOCAL website to see all of our reports and forecasts.
